چکیده

A fundamental problem in depth from defocus is the measurement of relative defocus between images. We propose a class of broadband operators tha t , when used together, provide invariance to scene texture and produce accurate and dense depth maps. Since the operators are broadband, a small number of them are sufficient for depth estimation of scenes with complex textural properties. Experiments are conducted on both synthetic and real scenes to evaluate the performance of the proposed operators. The depth detection gain error is less than I%, irrespective of texture frequency. Depth accuracy is found to be 0.5 1.2% of the distance of the object, from the imaging optics.

A computational approach for depth from defocus

Active depth from defocus (DFD) eliminates the main limitation faced by passive DFD, namely its inability to recover depth when dealing with scenes defined by weakly textured (or textureless) objects. This is achieved by projecting a dense illumination pattern onto the scene and depth can be recovered by measuring the local blurring of the projected pattern. Since the illumination pattern force...

Fachrichtung 6 . 1 – Mathematik Preprint Nr . 355 Physically Inspired Depth – from – Defocus

We propose a novel variational approach to the depth–from–defocus problem. The quality of such methods strongly depends on the modelling of the image formation (forward operator) that connects depth with out–of–focus blur. Therefore, we discuss different image formation models and design a forward operator that preserves essential physical properties such as a maximum–minimum principle for the ...

Enhanced Depth from Defocus Estimation: Tolerance to Spatial Displacements

Most existing depth from defocus techniques assume that spatial shifts between a pair of images of the same scene are negligible. In practical computer vision, making sure that there is no displacements is difficult. Such an assumption may thus lead to a lack of accuracy. This paper presents an algorithm for an estimation of depth from defocus blur from two images which is tolerant to spatial s...
